Just before sunrise, all is still, no breath of moving air. In cool morning twilight, a lone juniper, the night chorus has quieted to deep burrows, I am the only creature not of this place. My awaiting of the sun exposes my ignorance. And so I stand apart, a watcher from a different world.
I photograph color without thought to project or geography. My prints are organized as such into a single gallery. We see in color, we feel in color, but color landscape photography can quickly lack mystery or depth when it depends on color alone to hold the subject. The isolation of dominant colors, of complimentary colors builds creative abstraction and creates that depth and emotional struggle that art should always try to strive toward. If this abstraction is taken too far, the results can feel inorganic. If not taken far enough will come off as simple ornamental beauty.
