In his book Log from the Sea of Cortez John Steinbeck says “One who was born by the ocean or has associated with it cannot ever be quite content away from it for very long”. I was reading his book when I photographed this in Baja. I have known ocean people who are more at home in the water than out of it. I am not one of them but I have a fascination with the ocean. I grew up on the West Coast and have lived most my life within a few miles of the ocean the entire time.

I now live in Bend Oregon, which is two mountain ranges away from salt water and I didn’t appreciate until we moved how much I would long for it. It’s quite a thing to remove something as simple as salt air when it’s all you’ve known.
