These five prints represent a month of a walking meditation I did during the early covid lockdowns of 2020. As the world ground to a halt I walked the same path everyday through the woods and along the Deschutes River near our house.
It started as a simple daily routine, but turned into a kind of contemplation, a much needed internal readjustment. It was neither exercise nor an assessment of righteousness, but a creative journey. I wanted to find in the repetition a kind of peace with myself. A walk in the woods is never just a walk. The way the light plays through moving branches or a river cuts around boulders, these simple nature moments reinforced my dedication to the art of landscape. It was a revelation.
I can no easier forget to breath as to not see the artistry in such scenes, not form in my mind the tonalities of a finished print. It is embedded in what I am, and so to walk in the woods is never just a walk, it’s always a journey of the creative mind.
