Ideas for future images come up all the time. I’d be walking, without gear or just out strolling and see something that strikes a chord of interest. Sometimes I write these ideas down, sometimes not, for I don’t usually forget the idea. It may be years before I come back to shoot it. I imagine it’s much the same no matter what the medium.
I had walked by this waterfall for years and had this print idea in mind. A medium view, heavily cropped with very little mid-tones (gradations between black and white). I wanted the essence of the thing. It needed heavy spring flow and overcast skies. When I finally shot this it turned out exactly how I had envisioned it.
Even within the found nature of landscape photography preconceived ideas do happen.
