Sand. Water. Cloud. Three ingredients in combination. I’m out just before sunrise. No other walkers are up, the sand is fresh from the nights tide. Patterns and striations form kinds of static land waves. The low tide on the horizon is a distant white band and the morning cloud layer is streaming down the coast. I want a simple tonal structure, no deep shadows or bright highlights, and with a soft vignette.

It’s peaceful standing at the tides edge, looking west across the Pacific, bare feet toeing the sand. In so many ways it’s an uncomplicated visual landscape. There is no distraction, just three beautiful ingredients.
