I’m drawn to photographing water. I hadn’t worked the Columbia River Gorge in a few years and on my way to Portland to visit family I decided to come this way to get some of the spring runoff. There are a lot of waterfalls along this stretch of river. The northern terminus of the Oregon Cascades ends in a kind of snout that dips into the huge Columbia Gorge. The mountains are sliced through by the river and because, innumerable waterfalls flow off its edge. This particular one is a short walk from its parking lot down a steep winding trail. The waterfall is around the corner but I liked this symmetrical outflow better. I setup on a bridge and patiently waited for the other walkers to pass by so they wouldn’t jiggle my exposure. I never ask people to move, nor to stay still, I simply wait for my time to shoot.
