Photographed in 2004 my eyes were still young. I was on a photo trip with three good friends and we stopped at Cannon Beach for the night. Earlier in the trip I photographed the image ROCK, WATER, SKY: AN ESSAY ON LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY north in Olympic National Park and ocean seastacks were on my mind. All week traveling down the coast my eyes were searching for the next one to photograph. What I enjoy in this image is its dual nature. Duality is a feature I search for in the landscape. It creates balance. When I setup to photograph this I walked back and forth until I was able to place the left seastack in the center and had the right seastack off center but darker in tonality to anchor the whole image.
