Along the upper flanks of Bishop Canyon the west facing walls hold the aspen color well into October. The yellow is bright beyond all measure. To photograph in black and white is not to shun this color, it serves to enhance its luminosity.

There was no direct sunlight in this scene, it was in complete shadow. Using a yellow filter (#8) absorbs most of the yellow color thereby lightening each leaf producing this glow. Autumn is a beautiful time in the Sierra. Winter is on the horizon but has yet to develop. The mornings are crisp and cold and colors abound.
