What you see in reality and what you see in your creativity are not the same thing. A landscape photographer searches for subject out there but uses skill, experience and knowledge to form the image that lives within.
Driving this backroad I saw the road extend under a storm away from me and envisioned this final print in my head. The reality was not as dramatic but drama is what I wanted. To create this depth I started in camera using heavy color filtration and exposed the negative for the highlights in the distant clouds. In printing I heavily burned and dodged around the print to further accentuate it. After washing I painting a dilute solution of photo bleach on the white lines to add highlight.
Don’t ever forget, in photography the print is the performance of the captured negative.
