Mystery is something hard to convey in a landscape image. This little waterfall was just a few feet from my sleeping bag and I setup in early morning light to photograph it. My intention was a long exposure, with the rest of the scene well exposed. But I forgot to set a locking mechanism on my cable release and fired off a frame, well underexposed. I immediately wound the film and shot another frame at the proper exposure. When I developed the film, I got my properly developed frame and it was…boring. The frame that stood out was this one, full of subtly and mystery. It’s what’s referred to as a happy accident, but it’s also a lesson I never forgot.
